RAMADAN 1446 AH: UNILAG Mgt. Hosts Iftar for Muslim Community

The University of Lagos Management, on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, hosted an Iftar (breaking of Ramadan fast) programme for members of the UNILAG Muslim Community.

Being the 25th day of the Ramadan fast, the event was held at the Senate Lounge of the UNILAG Senate House.

Speaking at the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS who was flanked by some members of the University Management team, congratulated members of the UNILAG Muslim Community for witnessing the Holy month of Ramadan 1446 AH.

She specially applauded them for their support towards fostering the all-inclusive, harmonious, peaceful and tranquil atmosphere on campus.

While appreciating the contributions of the entire muslim ummah towards strengthening moral uprightness, a culture of discipline and community service on campus, Prof. Ogunsola solicited the continuation of their mutual cooperation, prayers and support with a view to sustaining the wave and pace of progress and development in UNILAG.

She also challenged the muslim community to “let their prayers guide their purposes, let the lessons of the Holy month guide how they shape others, provide guidance to those struggling and be a beckon of hope to those in need of support”.

In his remarks, the Chairman of UNILAG Muslim Community, Professor Hakeem Olaniyan was grateful to the University Management for the sustaining the Iftar tradition despite the prevalent economic situation and scarce resources.

He reassured the University Management of the loyalty of members of the UNILAG Muslim Community in acknowledgment of the shared sense of purpose, togetherness, mutual respect and thoughtful disposition to all irrespective of religious leaning.

The Chief Imam, UNILAG Central Mosque, Professor Ismail Musa, led a special prayer session for the University and country at large.

There were remarks from some members of the UNILAG Muslim Community including Professor Tajudeen Yusuf, Dr Halimot Egberoungbe and Dr Abiola Abdulakeem. They thanked the University Management for the positive disposition towards the muslim community as evident in the Iftar programme and reassured of their commitment towards sustaining the religious harmony which UNILAG has enjoyed over the decades.

Highpoint of the event was the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola leading other members of management and UNILAG Muslim Community to the food stand where they were served their preferred meals and drinks.

Managements of the University of Lagos has, for decades, held the annual Iftar Programme with the UNILAG Muslim Community during the month of Ramadan as a way of identifying with members during the fasting season as well as fostering religious harmony on campus.
