In a bid to strengthen the overall institutional capacity of the University to deliver premium, efficient, and effective quality service at all levels, the Quality Assurance and SERVICOM Unit on Tuesday, March 28, 2023, organized one-day training for students of the university at the Senate Chamber, Senate House, UNILAG, Akoka.
Addressing the trainees known as ‘Students Vanguard’, the Director of Quality Assurance and SERVICOM, Professor Grace O. Otinwa underscored the importance of Quality Assurance at every level of public service delivery.

According to her, the Quality Assurance and SERVICOM office is a monitoring unit established to aid government and institutions in ensuring that complaints related to service delivery are acted upon promptly, for an effective and efficient public sector.
While sharing some SERVICOM experiences garnered since its establishment in March 2004, Professor Otinwa noted that the unit has continued to make an impact at the point of service delivery within the public service.

The Dean, Student Affairs Division who was also present at the training session, equally elaborated on the significant role of students as the focal point of the activities of the university. He, therefore, charged them to be diligent and actively involved in the campaign to heighten public awareness of the damaging effects of service failure to the Nigerian society.

The Deputy Director of the Quality Assurance and SERVICOM, Dr. Ayodele Omotayo who served as lead trainer shared practical and relatable experiences to guide the Quality Assurance representatives in the new role.
Dr. Omotayo charged the students to ensure that grievances and other feedbacks are brought to the attention of the Dean of Student Affairs and Director of Quality Assurance in a clear and timely manner.

According to her, “we have over the years placed a premium on the key objective of monitoring and evaluating the university’s core activities of teaching and learning using various instruments and this has created interesting results. As such, you must play your part well in order for us to ensure that new mechanisms are created to achieve results ’.

She highlighted the following as the terms of reference of the Students Vanguard: to ensure prompt reporting of service delivery-related problems, to monitor the quality of service delivery to students in academics and other units of the university, and to regularly sensitize students on ethical conduct and obligations among others.

It would be recalled that the ‘Students Vanguard’ section of the Quality Assurance & SERVICOM Unit was officially launched during the quarterly meeting of Quality Assurance Directors of universities in Nigeria.
