Professor Alabi Sebili Okanlawon Soneye has become a Fellow of the Association of Nigerian Geographers.
He received the conferment at the 64th Annual Conference of the professional body which was hosted by the Department of Geography at FCT College of Education, Zuba, Abuja from October 13-19, 2024.
The theme of the conference was “Environmental Disaster, Risk Management, and Sustainable Development in Nigeria”, and a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr. Useni U. Useni, gave the keynote presentation, sharing in-depth discussions on risk management and development strategies.
At the forefront of the paper and deliberations at the conference were the works and times of Professor Akinlawon Ladipo Mabogunje (1931 – 2022), a foremost Nigerian Geographer of repute. Special emphasis was made on his creation and development planning of the new Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
A total of 33 eminent people were conferred with the Fellowship of the association, including Vice-Chancellors and Deputy Vice-Chancellors of universities, Chief Executives of companies and Directors of institutes.
