Prof. Ogunsola Leads Campus Community on Fitness Drill to mark Independence Holiday

Underscoring the importance of a sound mind in a sound body, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, on Monday, October 2, 2023, led fitness enthusiasts across and beyond the campus community on 6000 seconds of fitness exercise.

Tagged 6000 Seconds of Strength, Endurance and Cardio, the annual sports convergence held in the morning at the Indoor Arena of the UNILAG Sports Complex with many principal officers, staff, students and other fitness enthusiasts all in attendance.

Being a national public holiday, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola used the avenue to congratulate the entire campus community on the nation’s 63rd independence anniversary.

The 6000 Sec of Strength, Endurance and Cardio according to Prof. Ogunsola gives room for participants, especially those with a sedentary work schedule, to explore the many benefits of physical exercises.

Flanked by other members of the university management, the Vice-Chancellor showered encomiums on the convener, a 2010 UNILAG alumnus from the Faculty of Education, Department of Human Kinetics Education, Gbenga Akinpelu for returning to his Alma mater with such a laudable initiative, a feat she also appealed to other alumni to emulate with a view to accelerating the Future-Ready Agenda of the university.

In his remarks, the Convener, Gbenga Akinpelu professionally known as Ben Fit was thankful to the campus community for the warm acceptance since the programme was launched in UNILAG.

He implored participants to make physical exercise a routine so as to maintain a healthy lifestyle and ward off avoidable ailments.

The 6000 seconds (i.e. One Hour, Forty Minutes) non-stop physical exercise saw participants being taken through drills for strength, endurance and cardio. They moved in synchronization to rhythms of Nigerian hit songs, played to ensure their coordination and entertainment.

This year’s 6000 Sec of Strength, Endurance and Cardio is the 7th in its series.
