Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS, has advocated the need for those in the academia to break barriers and push new frontiers which would aid the promotion of multidisciplinary training to raise well-rounded graduates.
She made the call on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, while receiving the Fulbright Alumni Association of Nigeria (FAAN) national executives who paid her a courtesy visit, ahead of the Association’s 18th Annual Conference being hosted by UNILAG.
Prof. Ogunsola expressed concern over the continued decline in concentration time especially among students despite the increased speed in knowledge development and displacement.

The Vice-Chancellor who was flanked by the Registrar of the University, Azeez Oladejo Esq., the University Bursar, Mrs. Olufunmilola Adekunle alongside Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Mopelola Olusakin, appreciated the rank and file of the Fulbright scholars for identifying with the giant strides being recorded at UNILAG to ensure development of requisite manpower for national development.
While reiterating management’s commitment to make UNILAG future-ready as well as raise a fit-for-purpose workforce, Prof. Ogunsola challenged the Fulbright Scholars to brainstorm on ways to engender collaboration among the academia with a view to driving curriculum review to groom specific capacities for national development.
Led by Professor Adele Garkida of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, the association used the avenue provided by the courtesy visit to applaud the milestones which successive managements of UNILAG have made in the development of tertiary education in Nigeria.

While aligning with the clarion call of Professor Ogunsola for academics to push new frontiers in the promotion of knowledge, the FAAN President said part of the purpose of the conference is to critically examine and appreciate the peculiar challenges of tertiary education in Nigeria with a view to proffering solutions thereby bringing tertiary education in Nigeria to be at par with what obtains in other advanced countries.
