Director of the Distance Learning Institute, University of Lagos, Prof. Riskat Dauda, has charged all Open and Distance Learning (ODL) facilitators to embrace modern technologies with a view to acquiring contemporary skills needed to stay attuned with Virtual Learning.
She gave the charge at the opening session of a two-day capacity building workshop organized by the Institute for DLI Facilitators for the 2024/2025 Academic Session, which kicked off on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at the Nurudeen Alao (DLI) Auditorium.


Professor Dauda disclosed that the training was being held against the backdrop of feedbacks from learners which further emphasised the importance of impactful engagement with students.
The Director placed on record how virtual learning has revolutionized education with its many benefits which include, globalization and personalized learning.
However, she expressed worries over the challenges which ODL poses to learners, a development which she said, makes it imperative for ODL facilitators and tutors to learn, unlearn and relearn so as to be abreast of the latest knowledge needed to drive an impactful Open and Distance Learning experience.


With with the theme, “Engagement Optimization in Virtual Learning Environment: A Learner-Centered Approach”, the training featured seven presentations across three sessions which are as follows:
- Who is a Facilitator/Learner in Open Flexible and Distance Learning Environment? by Dr Gloria Alaneme.
- Preparation and Uploading of Facilitators’ Plan for the Session on the VLE by Dr. Obiageli Modebelu.
- Recording of Lectures and Taking attendance in a virtual Classroom (Hands on) by Dr. Olusoji Adewunmi
- Integrating Electronic Resources into Teachings in Open Flexible and Distance Learning Environment by Dr Olatokunbo Okiki.
- Learning Centred Approach in the Virtual classroom by Dr Kehinde Bolarinwa.
- Ethical Considerations in Open Flexible and Distance Learning by Dr. Peter Olayiwola and
- Facilitator & E-tutor Relationship in the virtual Classroom Environment by Dr. Adedunni Adegun.












The capacity building/interactive session continues on Thursday, November 28, 2024, with E-Tutors as the target audience.
