NIGERIAN EXCHANGE (NGX) LTD PARTNERS UNILAG FOR DEVELOPMENT, FINANCIAL LITERACY

The University of Lagos and the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited have set up a technical committee to work out areas of mutual interest.

The committee which is made up of experts in Stocks Trading and Investment from the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Ltd and Heads of relevant offices in the University of Lagos, is a fall out of the courtesy visit by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NGX Ltd, Mr. Temi Popoola to UNILAG.

Receiving the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Ltd delegation in his office on Monday, September 27, 2021, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, reemphasised the commitment of his management team to explore every partnership opportunity to advance the course of research, innovation and capacity building for both staff and students of the University.

Prof. Ogundipe announced to the admiration of the visiting Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Ltd top echelon that as from the next convocation of UNILAG, some students graduating in the Bachelors’ Degree category will also be bagging Diploma certificates in Entrepreneurship.

The Vice-Chancellor added that the feat will become mandatory for every student in subsequent years as plans have been concluded to introduce Entrepreneurship and Skill Acquisition Courses into the undergraduate curriculum across all faculties.

The purpose of the visit according to Mr. Temi Popoola was to concretize a relationship between the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited and the University of Lagos.

While briefing members of the UNILAG management who were on hand with the Vice-Chancellor to receive the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited team, Mr Popoola, who is an alumnus of UNILAG, identified areas of prospective partnership to include collaboration with the University of Lagos Business School to develop a degree programme in Capital Market, facilitation of capacity building programmes to ensure employability of students as well as creation of awareness on investment opportunities in the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Limited among students.

Other areas of mutual collaboration identified by other speakers on the NGX Limited team include capacity building in financial literacy and financial technology (Fintech).

Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe charged the newly constituted technical committee to harmonize all suggestions and develop a detailed plan of action.
