NAL Leadership Pays Professor Ogunsola Appreciation Visit

Members of the Nigeria Academy of Letters (NAL), led by the body’s President, Professor Duro Oni paid a courtesy call on the Vice Chancellor, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, on Tuesday, June 6, 2023.

The NAL delegation included the Academy Secretary, Professor Ayobami Kehinde, and Dean, Faculty of Arts, UNILAG, Prof Olufunke Asake Adeboye who are both recipients of the 2023 NAL Fellowship Award; Vice-Chancellor, Christopher University, Professor F.N. Ndubuisi; former Dean of Students Affairs Division, Professor Ademola Adeleke and Professor Ndisika Abigael-Ogwezzy of the Department of Mass Communications.

During the brief courtesy visit which also featured the exchange of gifts between the two institutions, Professor Oni expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for the University’s support of the Academy, over the years.

His words, “… This is a visit of appreciation for the immense support our Academy enjoys from the University. For over twenty years, the institution has continued to play an important role in our activities, not also forgetting its recent gesture toward one of our facilities on campus. We are grateful”.

The former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG seized the opportunity of the courtesy visit, to also formally invite the institution’s helmswoman to the Academy’s 25th Convocation ceremony scheduled for August 2023.

In response, the Vice-Chancellor thanked Professor Oni and his team for the visit. She pointed out the contributions of the Academy to the institution’s bourgeoning legacy. According to her, “the Academy has no doubt enriched the university, and consequently promoted our values and works too”.

Professor Ogunsola, however, encouraged members of the Academy who are staff of the University to participate in the governance of the structures within the university.

The Nigerian Academy of Letters is a national academy and apex body of arts and literature in Nigeria. It is an autonomous, scholarly, and non-political state institution for advancing scholarship and public interest in the humanities at the highest level in Nigeria
