NACON Delegation Visits UNILAG, Commends Leadership for Support

A delegation of officers from the Nigerian Army College of Nursing (NACON), led by the Corps Commandant, Colonel Juliana O. Awuto, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

The visit of the Military Chief was to appreciate the University leadership for its support for NACON in its bid to run a Bachelor of Nursing degree programme, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Lagos.

Colonel Awuto, who oversees the operations of NACON was accompanied by other senior officers of the college including the Deputy Commandant, Lt. Col O.S Adewale; and Director of Academic Affairs, Lt. Col S.O Shittu amongst others.

In her remarks, she highlighted the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing between the two institutions in advancing healthcare education and training in Nigeria.

According to her, “we are delighted to be associated with the University of Lagos, the University of First Choice and we are grateful for the support so far”.

She averred that it has been a very beautiful union that has resulted in improvements in infrastructure and personnel who are dedicated to advancing the medical profession in Nigeria.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services ), Professor, Lucian Obinna Chukwu, stood in for the Vice-Chancellor. He expressed delight at the partnership between the two institutions. He pointed out that efforts being put into the curriculum development for the Nursing Degree programme would ensure its success.

While reaffirming the dedication of the University of Lagos to global best practices, he disclosed that the institution will continue to support the Nigeria Army College of Nursing in promoting excellence in nursing education and professional development.

His words: “Let me inform you that we now have an opportunity to increase our admission quota by 25% after the approval given by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. The quota will provide more opportunities for NACON students to pursue their academic goals in the University of Lagos. This initiative will not only enhance the educational experience of NACON students but also promote collaboration and knowledge sharing between the two institutions.”

At the end of the visit, the two teams exchanged gifts as gestures of goodwill.
