NAAT CELEBRATES RETIRED MEMBERS AS LEADERS SOLICIT MORE SUPPORT

The National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), University of Lagos on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, rolled out the drums to honour some of its serving and retired members for their outstanding and philanthropic gestures to the union.

The event which held at the Tolu Odugbemi hall according to the Chairman of the association, Comrade Peter Ojobor, is an annual convergence by successive executive committees of the union to formally send off and celebrate its members as they pull out of active service to the university as well as to promote a culture of bonding among members.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Registrar, University of Lagos; Mr Azeez Oladejo who was represented by Mr Michael Uwakwe, adjudged NAAT a major stakeholder in the developmental strides and success stories of UNILAG especially in the areas of laboratory researches.

While assuring members of the association of the continued goodwill of the university’s management, the Registrar congratulated both the serving and retired members of NAAT and charged them not to relent in giving their best to the university and by extension, the nation.

Also in his goodwill message, the Provost, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Professor David Oke who was represented by Mr. Kayode Owotutu commended the rank and file of NAAT in UNILAG especially for their role in medical and laboratory based researches.

He challenged them to look inward and develop ideas and innovations which will aid the global effort to end the COVID-19 pandemic and address its daunting effects.

There were goodwill messages from representatives of other university staff unions namely the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU).

They all showered encomiums on the leadership of NAAT for prioritizing the welfare of its members and for their contributions towards the national struggles for a better condition of service for workers across all Nigerian universities.

There were also words of encouragement from former National President of NAAT, Comrade Dr. Lateef Jokomba, former NAAT Chairman, Comr. Rasak Adedokun and the immediate past Chairman, Engineer Sulyman Lawal, the trio extolled past leaders of the union for their struggles, sacrifices and milestones in the pursuit of better working conditions for members, they all harped on the need for the present crop of leaders of the association to protect, preserve and improve upon the welfare legacies already achieved for members by the past leaders.

The event featured presentation of awards of excellence to past leaders of NAAT in acknowledgement of their contributions towards the growth and development of the association.

Other highlights of the ceremony which formed part of end of the year itinerary for the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) in the University of Lagos was presentation of gifts to its retired members.
