Management of the University of Lagos, on Friday, June 7, 2024, secured the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command towards enhanced safety of lives and protection of the university’s assets on and off campus.
During a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters situated at Ikeja GRA, Lagos, the Commissioner, Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade promised increased police activities in and around UNILAG’s neighbouring communities with immediate effect so as to flush out miscreants, nip potential threats in the bud and reduce criminal tendencies to the barest minimum within the shortest possible time.

CP Fayoade used the avenue to shower encomia on successive managements of UNILAG for building and maintaining a robust relationship with the Lagos State Police Command over the decades, a feat which he said, adds credence to UNILAG’s enviable reputation as the “University of first choice and the Nation’s pride”.
The courtesy visit to the Lagos State Police Boss, according to the Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, was part of efforts to foster a stronger linkage between the town and the gown.
While appreciating the rank and file of the Lagos State Police Command for the cooperation over the years, Prof. Ogunsola particularly applauded CP Fayoade for his role in resolving one of the lingering land disputes around Iwaya axis.

She solicited increased police surveillance especially along the lagoon front to stem incidences of burglary through the UNILAG waterfront.
The Vice-Chancellor re-affirmed UNILAG’s zero tolerance to illicit drugs and substances. She expressed management’s intention to work with the Nigeria Police in ensuring a hitch-free re-instatement of Students’ Union activities on campus.

As part of curriculum review efforts, Professor Ogunsola also announced the University’s plans to have high-ranking police officers as faculty members especially for disciplines in the Faculties of Law and Social Sciences, an initiative which CP Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade gladly embraced and assured of the Lagos State Police Command’s readiness to follow through once it takes off.
