Five students of the Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance of the University of Lagos made the list of winners of the Funmi Babington Ashaye Foundation Scholarship Award for this year.

The gesture according to a member of the Board of Trustees of the Funmi Babington Ashaye Foundation, Mrs. Teniola Stuffman, was to support as well as inspire the recipients to embrace the idea of impactful living within and beyond their environment.

In his welcome address at the formal presentation of cheques to the recipients which held on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development Services, Prof. Ayodele Atsenuwa, expressed appreciation to the Foundation for the merit-based scholarship award. He commended the students and encouraged them to work to accomplish more. He further enjoined the recipients of the scholarship awards to always aim for excellence in all their endeavours.
Representative of the Funmi Babington Ashaye Foundation Scholarship, Mrs. Teniola Stuffman thanked the University of Lagos for continuously giving the Foundation the opportunity to give back to the institution. She expressed the Foundation’s desire to extend the award beyond the Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance to other departments.

The donor also applauded recipients of the scholarship award for their hard and smart-work. She charged them to keep in mind the need to impact the lives of others when they graduate from school. While noting the importance of knowledge acquisition, she cautioned those in its pursuit to look beyond their certificates but put in work in developing the right attitude and doing their best wherever they are.
In response to the Foundation’s desire to do more, Prof. Atsenuwa identified Innovation and Entrepreneurship as germane in the University’s main agenda and solicited partnership in these areas.
The Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. E. Oyatoye thanked the Foundation on behalf of the Faculty and the Department. He advised the award recipients to keep up the good works which earned them the scholarship award. He reminded them that they are also ambassadors of the University and Foundation.
The Funmi Babington Ashaye Foundation Scholarship Award winners drawn from the Department of Actuarial Science and Insurance are:
- Akujobi Emmanuel Peter with a CGPA of 4.41
- Modeyin, Dorcas Omofemi with a CGPA of 3.99
- Alubiagba, Oluwaseun with a CGPA of 3.68
- Shotolu, Paul Oluwabukunmi with a CGPA of 3.55
- Otitoju, Eniola with a CGPA of 3.00
The Funmi Babington-Ashaye Foundation was incorporated on October 22, 2015. It was borne out of the founder, Mrs Funmi Babington-Ashaye’s empathy for students from humble backgrounds and the aim is to support their academic excellence. This scholarship award worth fifty thousand naira per awardee is focused at providing support to 400 level students with excellent academic performance.
