The Confucius Institute at the University of Lagos has brought its 3-month programme in Basic and Conversational Chinese language for staff of the University to an end with a closing ceremony on Thursday, August 24, 2023.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, was represented at the event by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Lucian O. Chukwu. He congratulated the graduating staff for their completion of the Chinese Language programme, stressing that it is one of the Vice Chancellor’s objectives that each staff member acquires additional skills to improve themselves.




His words, “It requires humility to learn other people’s language and culture irrespective of one’s position”. He enjoined the graduating staff not to relent but to continue the next stage of Chinese Language (HSK 2).



















The Nigerian Director of the Confucius Institute, Professor Chimdi Maduagwu expressed delight at the turn-out of the staff members from the different Faculties/Departments of the University for the programme. He encouraged participants to forge ahead, stating that the sky is their starting point to greatness. He appreciated the Confucius Institute staff members for their commitment to the success of the programme.

















Some of the graduating staff showcased their experiences by speaking Chinese Language to greet, make sentences and even to sing. The event also featured Chinese dance and eating with chopping stick.
The programme ended with the presentation of Certificates of Completion to participants by Professor Lucian O. Chukwu.
