138 Medical and Dental graduates of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL) were inducted into the Medical and Dental professions, respectively on Monday, December 9, 2019.
The event took place at the New Great Hall and had many dignitaries, as well as friends and families of the inductees in attendance.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services) and former Provost of the College, Professor Folasade Ogundipe, represented the Vice-Chancellor at the event. She charged the inductees to be solution providers in the health sector into which they were being admitted and to be good ambassadors of the University of Lagos, reminding them of the confidence the institution has in their capacities.
Professor Chris Bode, Chief Medical Director of LUTH, congratulated the inductees and announced, to the delight of the audience, that slots for Housemanship at LUTH have been automatically reserved for the top 50 students of the graduating set.
Provost of the College, Professor Foluso Lesi, urged them to embrace their careers, commit to never-ending development and to change the negative narrative that has become synonymous with Nigeria.
Dr. Maxwell Ubah, a 1997 graduate of the College and leadership expert at House of Strategy, delivered a rousing Induction Lecture. He advised the inductees to commit to being competent doctors and not incompetent or criminal ones. He reminded them that competent professionals are those who are not static but are dynamic in their approach to self and career development. They are empathetic, attentive and result-oriented in the discharge of their professional duties.
Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr. T.A.B. Sanusi, was on hand to induct 104 Bachelors of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) and 34 Bachelors of Dental Sciences (BDS) into medical and dental practice.
