The Central Industrial Liaison and Placement Unit (CILPU) of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has demonstrated its determination to prepare students of the institution for the real world of work via the 2024 Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) Orientation Programme held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at the J.F. Ade. Ajayi Auditorium, UNILAG.

At the venue, filled to the brim with students from different faculties, Director of CILPU-UNILAG, Prof. Johnson Agunsoye, charged the students to embrace the SIWES programme, not merely as course obligation to fulfil; but as a real opportunity to get prepared for the industry. He assured them of the readiness of CILPU to make the experience a seamless one for them, provided they are diligent.
The Area Manager (Lagos Island Area Office) of the Industrial Training Fund, Mr. Ogbonna Simon, who was represented at the event by Mr. Giwa Idris, expressed profound gratitude to the University Management for its constant support for the smooth operation of the SIWES. He urged the intending participants to seize the opportunity to prove themselves valuable to the labour market.
To further prepare the students for successful participation, Principal Coordinators at CILPU-UNILAG, Mr. Adeshola Kukoyi and Mr. Justin Ugodima, made presentations on the various aspects of the SIWES programme.

The Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) is a form of on-the-job training programme for students. Under the scheme, students are exposed to real-life work situations in relevant courses, in order to bridge the gap between theoretical course work and practical application in the industry.
At the University of Lagos, there are over 40 programmes, cut across six faculties and the College of Medicine, which present students for the SIWES. The faculties are: Arts, Education, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Pharmacy and Social Sciences.
