Applause and Commendations Trail Presentation at Seminar Hosted by Dept. of Met & Mat Engineering, UNILAG

At the Rahman Adisa Bello Auditorium, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Dr. Oluseyi Philip Oladijo of the Department of Chemical Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Botswana International University of Science and Technology on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, delivered an insightful presentation that was met with enthusiasm and applause by the audience.

The event was the Seminar organized by the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, UNILAG, and the Guest Speaker, Dr. Oladijo was able to captivate the audience with his in-depth analysis and findings in the realm of heat coating on various substrates. His presentation sparked discussions and inquiries, from members of faculty reflecting the profound interest and relevance of his research in contemporary scientific discourse.

The seminar provided a platform for scholars, researchers, and students to engage with Dr. Oladijo’s research and gain valuable acuities on the complexities of Materials Engineering. His expertise and extensive knowledge in this domain were evident as he delved into the nuances of heat-coating processes and their implications for diverse substrates.

He started off his presentation titled: Comparative Studies of Microstructural, Residual Stress and Tribology of Heat Coating on Different Substrates, by introducing the audience to the intricate details of microstructural variations, residual stress distributions, and tribological properties exhibited by heat coatings when applied to different subrates.

According to him, residual stresses are inherent within heat coatings due to the differential thermal expansion between the coating and substrate during the deposition process.

His presentation brought to limelight the need to understand the magnitude and distribution of residual stresses, which he underscored as critical for assessing the adhesion strength, fatigue resistance, and dimensional stability of coated components. He mentioned other methods such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), neutron diffraction, and synchrotron radiation-based methods as techniques that equally quantify residual stresses in heat coatings on different substrates.

The audience was thoroughly engaged as the academic elucidated on the significance of his comparative studies, emphasizing their potential impact on industrial applications, material performance enhancement, and technological advancements in the field of metallurgical and materials engineering.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, Acting Head of Department, Dr. Lawrence Osoba posited that the seminar provided an excellent opportunity for members of faculty and students to delve into the latest advancements in the field and gain knowledge from Dr. Oladijo’s research.

According to him “the topic of Dr. Oladijo’s presentation is particularly relevant as it touches on crucial aspects of metallurgical and materials engineering including micro-structural analysis, residual stress evaluation, tribological behavior and so much more”.

Amongst those who witnessed the presentation and applauded Dr. Oladijo “for a well-delivered paper” were Professor Samson Adeosun and Professor David Esezobor. The trio of Dr. Henry Mgbemere, Dr. Toyin Jegede (Works & Physical Planning), and Dr. (Mrs) Oladoye raised questions, which led to further deliberations.
