On Friday, June 5, 2020 a team of inspectors led by the Coordinator, Lagos State Office 1/ Group Head, LPG, Engr. Nwaoma Olujie and accompanied by the Deputy Director of Research and Innovation Office and the team lead on the AmbuVent – ventilator recently produced by the University, Dr. Amuda visited the University for inspection.
Receiving the SON Technical Team, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS stated that the project, known as the University of Lagos/ Lagos State Science Research and Innovation Council (UNILAG/LASRIC) Ambuvent was sponsored by the Lagos State Government. He said that the University reputation for offering high quality research output is not in doubt thus the creation of the ventilator. He said the device was highly specialized equipment put together by thorough-bred researchers aimed at proffering solution to respiratory challenges associated with COVID-19 and other respiratory issues.
The Vice Chancellor commended the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) for its efforts in providing nationwide technical support for manufacturers and institutions with focus on home grown solutions in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria.
Engr. Olujie in her response thanked the Vice Chancellor for creating such an enabling environment for innovative ideas that can help support government and also improve the lives of citizens . She stated that the visit was to further provide necessary support and encouragement to facilitate the conformance of the various innovations to applicable standards, given the urgent need for the containment of the Covid-19 pandemic with home-grown innovations and inventions.
