Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa has stated that accreditation exercises give the university the opportunity to see itself through the lenses of a 3rd party.
She made this statement while receiving several accreditation teams from the National Universities Commission and the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the Senate Chamber of the University.


The teams were in the University for the accreditation of the following programmes: NMCN team: Nursing Science NUC teams: Geography, Integrated Science Education, Geophysics, History & Strategic Studies and Pharmacy. She received the teams on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor along with Acting Registrar, Mrs. Olakunle Makinde; Director, Academic Planning Unit, Prof. Olusoji Ilori; Deputy Provost, College of Medicine, Prof. Daniel Odebiyi; Deans of Faculties and Heads of departments where the programmes are domiciled among others. She also assured the accreditation teams of the Departments’ cooperation during the exercise.


Speaking on behalf of the NUC accreditation teams, Prof. Anim Ajake of the University of Calabar stressed that accreditation is a routine and not a witch-hunting process. He also called for utmost cooperation from the University. Similarly, the lead for the NCMC team, Dr. Iyanuoluwa Ojo of the University of Ibadan expressed the Council’s expectation that the University of Lagos would meet and surpass the minimum standard for the nursing programme.
