On Friday, June 21, 2019, the Nigerian Ambassador to Germany, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, visited German material research institute, Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing [(Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und-prüfung (BAM)), Germany. The purpose of the visit was to get more insight into the joint Local-Care Project of Dr. Kolawole Olonade of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, University of Lagos and Dr. Wolfram Schmidt of BAM.
Local-Care Project is an acronym for Low-Carbon Livelihoods – Cassava residues for performance materials funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) under the German-African Innovation Award.
The Ambassador, in his speech, commended the ongoing collaborative research and urged BAM to strengthen research collaborations with the University of First Choice and the Nation’s pride, UNILAG. In his words, “It is indeed a pleasure to visit BAM and to reinforce collaboration between BAM and the University of Lagos. I am particularly thrilled about the ongoing research work of Dr. Olonade at BAM and hopeful that it will revolutionize Nigerian Construction industry”. Two other projects developed by BAM were introduced to the Ambassador. These are the development of fertilizer from waste sludge and a simple tool using smart phone for detecting contamination in oil products.
Co-researcher, Dr. Wolfram Schmidt was in the University of Lagos in September 2019. He and Dr. Kolawale Olonade in an interview spoke on the German-African Innovation Award, their project, research in UNILAG, challenges, foreign collaborations, etc. Click on
