The University of Lagos (UNILAG) was among four beneficiaries of 3D printers donated to selected tertiary institutions in Lagos state.
The gesture which was courtesy of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industries (LCCI) was in realization of the importance of cutting-edge technology in the current academic dispensation in Nigeria.
In her remarks at the presentation ceremony which was held at the Commerce House (LCCI Head office), Victoria Island, Lagos on Wednesday, May 26, 2021, the President of LCCI, Mrs. Toki Mabogunje, pointed out that the LCCI took up the challenge of collaborating with donors of the 3D Printers with a view to bringing modern technology closer to tertiary institutions in Lagos thereby promoting teaching and enhancing learning for students of the selected Ivory towers.
The LCCI boss buttressed the need for quality investments in the education sector with a view to securing the future of the Nation’s teeming youths.
The 3D printer was received by the Director, Quality Assurance and SERVICOM Unit, UNILAG, Professor Grace Otinwa, who stood in for the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS.
Prof. Otinwa who was assisted by the Director, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) Information Technology (IT) Hub, UNILAG, Dr. Victor Odumuyiwa, expressed gratitude to LCCI for the donation and assured of the best use of the gesture.
While lauding the donors of the 3D Printers, she buttressed the indispensability of cutting-edge technology especially in the quest for development in Nigeria and Africa as a continent.
Prof. Otinwa also challenged stakeholders across all spheres towards promoting 3D technology and its potentials with a view to cushioning the daunting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Nigerian economy.
Other beneficiaries of the 3D Printers courtesy of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industries (LCCI) are Yaba College of Technology, Lagos State University and Lagos State Polytechnic.
