The Honorable Commissioner representing Lagos State at the Federal Character Commission in Abuja, Honourable AbdulWasiu Kayode Bawa-Allah, alongside other officials of the Commission, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS on Wednesday, April 7, 2021.
In his remarks, Hon. Bawa-Allah said his team and the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu are very appreciative of the giant strides made by the Vice Chancellor and his Management Team. He went further to state that his visit was centred around some documents received from the Office of Special Duties in 2019 which revealed the staff nominal roll of University of Lagos from level 1-6, especially those of Lagos State.
‘’Our visit is timely because the Lagos State Governor wants us to seek collaboration with UNILAG on how to increase the workforce for Lagos State Indigenes based on 2019 records’’, he said.
The Vice-Chancellor thanked Hon. Bawa-Allah and his team for visiting UNILAG but also used the occasion to disclose that the last recruitment for drivers was thrown open to the public which was a way of clearing the thoughts of favouritism.
‘’Most of our processes from advertising vacancy for drivers to administrative assistants and the admission process have been very open but the question is how many Lagosians applied?’’
Professor Ogundipe concluded that the UNILAG Entrepreneurship Centre is planning to collaborate with Akoka Community and Lagos Island Local Government, and have already they signed a deal with Igbogbo Local Council Development Association.
