UNILAG Hands Over Site to Custodian Foundation for New Faculty of Management Sciences Building

The University of Lagos (UNILAG), on Monday, October 5, 2026, handed over the site of a new building project to Custodian Social Responsibility Foundation for the construction of the Custodian Actuarial Science and Insurance Studies Centre for the Faculty of Management Sciences.

The three-storey facility project, which is an endowment to the University by the Foundation, is expected to be completed within two years. The new facility will comprise classrooms, offices and other essential conveniences.

The building will replace the existing lecture halls of the Faculty of Management Sciences located along the Professor Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe Drive on the UNILAG Main Campus while providing an improved learning environment and further support the teaching and development of actuarial sciences.

Speaking at the brief ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, described the partnership as a “handshake between the Town and Gown.”

Professor Ogunsola noted that the project, being undertaken by Custodian Social Responsibility Foundation, would contribute to knowledge creation while significantly complementing the University’s efforts to improve its infrastructure.

According to her, the facility, when completed, will support knowledge development, character building and the pursuit of excellence among students.

The Vice-Chancellor also expressed optimism about sustained collaboration between the Foundation and UNILAG, particularly in creating opportunities for students to connect with industry and advancing the growth and development of actuarial sciences in Nigeria.

Speaking on behalf of the Custodian Social Responsibility Foundation, the Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Olubunmi Aderemi, described the Custodian Actuarial Science and Insurance Studies Centre as a demonstration of the Foundation’s commitment to supporting education, in line with its corporate focus on “Health, Education and Community Development.”

Flanked by the Chairman of the Foundation, Mrs Mimi Ade-Odiachi, the CEO expressed delight at the commencement of the project, particularly given her connection to UNILAG as an alumna. She assured the University of the Foundation’s commitment to work closely with the University to ensure the smooth execution, timely completion and delivery of the project within the scheduled time frame.
