NAFDAC DG, Professor Adeyeye, Delivers 4TH Ladipo Mobolaji-Abisogun Afodu Annual Lecture in Pharmacy

Director-General of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, FPSN, delivered the 4th Ladipo Mobolaji Abisogun-Afodu Annual Lecture in Pharmacy on Thursday, December 3, 2020. 

At a sparsely populated Old Great Hall, Professor Adeyeye delivered her lecture via the ZOOM app, which was projected to the audience. She spoke masterfully on the topic, “Pharmacy Practice and Advancement in the Nigerian Pharmaceutical Industry: Regulatory Perspectives”. She identified the critical role of the pharmacist in the overall network of health delivery, starting from the community level to the macro-regulatory level. Professor Adeyeye empahsised the very important work that NAFDAC is doing in ensuring that the country is safe from counterfeit drugs and also to help Nigeria attain a World Health Organisation (WHO) status that will enable her produce globally acceptable vaccines.

The 4th Ladipo Mobolaji Abisogun-Afodu Annual Lecture in Pharmacy was a hybrid one, combining on-line and physical resources to be successfully delivered. It was an innovative response to the social distancing demands of the COVID-19 era.

The event witnessed the award of a research grant to a Lecturer in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Biopharmacy, Dr. Amaeze Ogochukwu Ukamaka. She was awarded the sum of N1.4million naira for her research proposal on “Pharmaceutical Interventions provided by Community Pharmacists during COVID-19 Pandemic: A Case Study of Lagos State, Nigeria”. She beat two other contestants to emerge the second winner of the Ladipo Mobolaji Abisogun-Afodu Research Grant Award.

The event was chaired by Pharm. Bruno Nwankwo, FPSN, the immediate past Chairman of the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN). It also had in attendance Pharm. Kikelomo Sunmonu, FPSN, a retired Director of Pharmaceutical Services in Lagos State; Professor Oluwole Familoni, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics and Research), who also doubled as representative of the Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ladipo Mobolaji Abisogun-Afodu Annual Lecture; Registrar of the University of Lagos, Oladejo Azeez ,Esq. and other members of the academic and administrative staff.
