Authorities of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have opened a condolence register at the Senate House Foyer, UNILAG Main Campus, Akoka, for late distinguished Nigerian, former diplomat, and philanthropist, Chief Arthur Christopher Izuegbunam Mbanefo, MFR, CON, FCA .
Chief Mbanefo passed unto eternal glory on Thursday, December 4, 2026, at the age of 95. His life was marked by unwavering commitment to national development and youth empowerment. His enduring legacy at the University of Lagos is exemplified by the establishment of the Arthur Mbanefo Digital Research Centre (AMDRC) on the University campus.
Bequeathed to the University on June 11, 2020, AMDRC currently serves as a facility promoting education and knowledge through digital and internet-based facilities, bridging critical gaps confronting Nigeria’s educational and research institutions. The Centre remains a vibrant hub for seminars, workshops, and international conferences.
