On Wednesday, March 18, 2020, the Managing Director and CEO, Rural Electrification Agency, Ahmad Salihijo and the Executive Director, Corporate Services, Chief Olaniyi Alaba Netufo and Team paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS.
During the visit, the CEO and the Vice-Chancellor discussed the REA Energizing Education Programme (EEP), a programme designed to provide sustainable and clean power supply to 37 Federal Universities and 7 University Teaching Hospitals across Nigeria, of which the University of Lagos is a beneficiary. Due to this programme, an 8.4MW gas-fired plant is presently being constructed at the University.
They also discussed local capacity building which will aid the Agency’s agenda for long-term sustainability of the Gas plant. The Workshop and Training Centre at the plant would anchor a Female STEM programme as part of the Agency’s technical collaboration, research & development aspirations.
It would be recalled that the University signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the Energizing Education Programme (EEP) designed to implement the energy access and sufficiency action point of the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (EGRP).
Afterwards, the Vice-Chancellor, CEO, REA and his Team visited the Service Area of the University, to inspect and assess the progress of the ongoing project. The Agency reiterated its commitment towards ensuring the successful completion of the project which will definitely aid academic development & security at the University.
