The University of Lagos (UNILAG), in partnership with HumanManager Limited, a subsidiary of SystemSpecs, on Thursday, June 19, 2025, held a special training session to enhance the employability of students in the field of Human Resources Management.
HumanManager Limited brought its wealth of expertise in payroll outsourcing, expense and leave management, staff records, and performance monitoring to bear at the hands-on session designed specifically for students of Employment Relations and Human Resource Management, UNILAG. The event was held at the Adetokunbo Babatunde Sofoluwe Centre for Information Technology and Systems, UNILAG.
Addressing the students during the session, Head of Business and Partnerships at HumanManager, Mrs. Mojisola Oladele-Ojo, explained that the core objective of the training was to prepare students for the demands of the modern labour market, both now and post-graduation.

“A tree must follow the direction of the wind,” she remarked, drawing a metaphor for adaptability. “To thrive in today’s world of work, students must be equipped with the technical and analytical skills essential to modern Human Resources.”
She elaborated that the training would introduce students to core HR concepts including recruitment, payroll, employee benefits, and performance management, offering them practical exposure to real-world systems. According to her, the evolving landscape of HR requires that graduates enter the workforce with competencies that align with international best practices and technology-driven operations.
Also speaking at the event, Dr. Maryam Gbajumo-Sheriff, a Lecturer in the Department of Employment Relations and Human Resource Management, explained that the training was part of efforts to bridge the gap between theory and practice.

“Teaching alone is not enough. Students must be exposed to hands-on, technical knowledge to become future-ready,” she said. “This aligns with the vision of our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, who is committed to producing graduates equipped to meet the evolving demands of today’s workforce.”
Dr. Gbajumo-Sheriff described the training as a transformative opportunity that moves students from an “analogue mindset” to a systemic and analytical orientation, positioning them as active contributors to the socio-economic development of society.
