On Saturday, February 22, 2025, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) ushered in a new academic chapter for its MBA students with the 2025 MBA Orientation Programme.
Held at the Yaba campus of the University, the occasion offered an opportunity for the new MBA intakes to be provided with vital information as they begin their postgraduate academic journey. Present at the event were the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Abraham Osinubi; Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Adeola Sulaiman; Coordinator, Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme, Dr. Olufemi Olayemi, among others.
The day was marked by an inspiring lecture from a former Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Owolabi Kuye, who highlighted UNILAG’s strong legacy in academic excellence and its contributions to business education in Nigeria and beyond.

In his lecture, titled ” University of Lagos as a Leading Tertiary Institution in Business Education and Research: How Ready Are We? ”, Professor Kuye provided a thorough overview of the University’s evolution. He traced its journey from the leadership of Professor Eni Njoku, who focused on academic expansion, to the current Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, whose “Future Ready Agenda” aims to equip students for success in a digital, globalized economy.

Professor Kuye emphasized the strategic direction set by each of UNILAG’s 13 Vice-Chancellors, with each vision further elevating the University’s status. His focus on the “Future Ready Agenda” underscored how UNILAG is blending academic excellence with the modern skills needed to thrive in business today. He highlighted the University’s commitment to embracing technology, interdisciplinary learning, and research, positioning it as a hub for cutting-edge business education.
As a member of the University’s Governing Council, Professor Kuye also spoke on UNILAG’s stature, urging both faculty and students to contribute to its global prominence. He stressed the importance of fostering international collaborations and ensuring students are well-equipped to face the evolving business landscape. Professor Kuye posed a challenge to the new MBA students, encouraging them to actively participate in the University’s vision for growth and global influence.

Earlier, Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Abraham Osinubi set the tone for the programme, emphasizing the critical role of stakeholders in maintaining UNILAG’s reputation as a beacon of excellence. He reminded students that they were key players in further enhancing the university’s global standing.
Similarly, the Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Adeola Suleiman reaffirmed UNILAG’s commitment to quality education and a conducive learning environment, assuring students they were entering a space where they could thrive.

The MBA’s Administrative Head, Babatunde Oseni, Esq., addressed practical aspects of the programme, such as deferments, leave of absence, and extension of studentship; while Faculty members also provided detailed insights into various MBA specializations, including Marketing (Dr. Thaddeus Olufayo), Production (Dr. Glorious Adekoya), Human Resources (Dr. A E. Badejo), Finance (Dr. Abbas Shiro), Accounting (Dr. Oluwamayowa Iredele, and Management (Dr. Akintunde).

The event, coinciding with the birthday celebration of the MBA Programme Coordinator, concluded with an engaging interactive session led by one of the Programme’s Deputy Coordinators, Dr Oluwamayowa Iredele.

Dr. Iredele as well as the Coordinator, Dr. Olufemi Olayemi answered questions from students and re-assured them of the school’s efforts to continually enhance the programme, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in today’s competitive business world.
