As part of its commitment to advancing knowledge and fostering intellectual dialogue, the Distance Learning Institute (DLI) of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Thursday, January 30, 2025, launched its 2025 seminar series with a compelling presentation on the economic implications of global oil price fluctuations.
Held at the DLI Board Room, the event was well-attended by staff, students, and professionals eager to explore the topic of oil price shocks and its impact on inflation in Africa.
The seminar titled Investigating the Pass-Through Effect of Global Oil Price Shock on Domestic Inflation in Selected African Countries, was presented by an expert in Economics and International Finance, Dr. Lukman Oyelami.
The insightful lecture examined how shifts in global oil prices affect inflation rates in various African nations, drawing on recent data and case studies. It provided a thorough analysis on ways the volatility of global oil prices can trigger inflationary pressures within domestic economies.
Dr Oyelami discussed the varying levels of pass-through effects in different African countries, emphasizing the relationship between global oil price movements and local inflation rates.
The seminar which served as an important platform for exchanging ideas on the challenges faced by African countries, particularly those dependent on oil imports or exports.
