The Institute of African and Diaspora Studies (IADS), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has won €840,000 (about ₦338 million) as an infrastructural grant.

The Institute was awarded this grant under a project sponsored by Universität Bayreuth (University of Bayreuth, Germany). The announcement was made on Thursday, May 16, 2019. This has made IADS one of the four African universities to host an African Cluster Centre of Excellence.

Earlier in the year (Tuesday, February 12, 2019), delegates of Universität Bayreuth visited IADS, UNILAG to assess the facilities and program of the Institute. During their visit, they were taken on a tour of the University and experienced, first-hand, the scenic environment of the University.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS, on behalf of Management, staff and students of the University, congratulates the Director of the Institute, Prof. ‘Muyiwa Falaiye and all that worked assiduously to see to the realization of this feat.
