About the office of the Registrar

The Office of the Registrar in the University of Lagos is as old as the University, which started in 1962. It is the engine room of the general University administration, coordinating the activities of major administrative organs of the University and has an oversight function on all Administrative and Technical Staff in various Faculties/Departments/Units/Centre/Divisions in the University.

​Responsibilities of the Registrar

According to the University of Lagos Act 1967 (as amended):​

  • The Registrar is a Principal Officer and the Chief Administrative Officer of the University.  He/She is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor (VC) for the day-to-day administrative work of the University, except for financial matters which fall within the purview of the Bursar.​
  • The Registrar is Secretary to the Governing Council, Senate, Congregation and Convocation of the University and sits in advisory capacity at all Committees of Council and Senate as well as other Administrative Committees to guide on rules, regulations and University procedures.  ​
  • The Registrar carries a huge responsibility of coordinating administration in the University which include The College of Medicine, 12 Faculties, several Institutes/Centres and some other Academic and Service units.​
  • The Registrar is the Custodian of all University documents/records and the archives.​

The University Library’s vision is to be the primary and foremost source/vessel of reliable information for the University Community in its quest to realise its noble vision concerning teaching, research and community services.

Our Mission

The Library set out to provide information services to meet the intellectual needs of members of the University community; and make information seeking activity most rewarding and enjoyable for various categories of users in the community. The Library’s aim is to promote greater utilization of library services for research.

A Journey Through Time

The Registrar occupies an enviable position in the larger society and thus it is an honour and privilege to serve as the occupant of that office.  He/She must be a person with proven academic distinction, vision, managerial ability, integrity and transparency in public and private life.  Also, he/she must be of rounded character and personality with excellent interpersonal relations capable of instilling confidence in others and command the loyalty and respect of junior and senior colleagues.​

The Registrar must fully understand the complexities of a University system and be capable of effectively utilizing its human and material resources to attain a world class administrative system.  He/ She must be able to bring out the best in subordinates, demonstrate dynamism and wisdom when confronted with crisis or undesirable situations and must be an achiever who shows exceptional abilities for institutional loyalty and networking with the outside world.  He/She should be able to sustain and improve on the University Registry and establish linkages.​

In addition, he/she must enjoy good health, be of pleasant disposition and strong moral character in order to inspire and maintain discipline among staff and students and must be ICT compliant
