The leadership of the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), University of Lagos, on Thursday, May 2, 2024, held a General Assembly with students running various programmes under the Institute.
Held at the Afe Babalola Auditorium, the gathering witnessed an impressive crowd of students from various departments, who turned out to engage with the leadership and share their concerns. The atmosphere was electric, with students eager to participate in the open discussion aimed at identifying and proffering solutions to their challenges.

In her remarks, the Director of the Institute, Professor Abigail Ogwezzy-Ndisika welcomed the students and stressed the vision of the Institute, which she averred is in line with the FUTURE-READY Agenda of the incumbent Vice-Chancellor.
According to her, programmes under the Institute are designed to cater to the changing training needs of the society in order to ensure that the knowledge and skills acquired are locally and internationally competitive, as well as highly desirable in today’s fast-paced technology-driven world.

While offering ways for students to maximize opportunities available to them as UNILAG scholars, Professor Ogwezzy-Ndisika rebuffed claims that ICE students do not have the same privileges as the full time students on campus. She disclosed that quite a number of lecturers are graduates of ICE, who have gone ahead to become Ph. D holders.
Her words “I want you to take pride in being ICE students as we strongly believe in diversity and, therefore, provide an atmosphere for an all-inclusive campus. So, I urge you all to go out to give your best in the programme. We understand that pursuing continuing education can be demanding, and we are dedicated to supporting you every step of the way”.

The event also featured goodwill messages from Prof. Sunday Òlórúntola of the Department of Mass Communication and Dr. Gbenusola of the Department of Psychology who delivered inspiring messages to the students. They both encouraged the students to stay focused, work hard, and take advantage of the opportunities offered by the University.

Thereafter, Professor Ogwezzy-Ndisika and other members of the ICE leadership team listened attentively to the students’ concerns on issues such as course registration, examination schedules, missing results, NYSC enrolment and facilities improvement. The ICE Director and her team responded with assurance and commitment to addressing the issues raised.

The Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) was established by the University of Lagos Senate in 2009 to coordinate all undergraduate degree programmes, run on part-time basis in various faculties across the University.
