The University of Lagos (UNILAG) Senate, on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, held a valedictory session to celebrate Professor Funso Alphonsus Falade of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering as he officially bows out of active University Service on Monday, February 5, 2024.

In her remarks, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, on behalf of UNILAG Senate, staff and students, congratulated Professor Falade for his illustrious service to the university, and contributions to the body of knowledge.
Similarly, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa commended Professor Falade for “walking the talk, and delivering an impactful exaugural lecture that is trending across several platforms”.

In his remarks, Professor Falade expressed gratitude to God, the University Senate and UNILAG community for providing an enabling environment for growth, and career fulfillment. His words, “I never planned to be a lecturer… However, I am fulfilled and happy that I had the opportunity to serve as an academic in this citadel of higher learning”.
Born on February 5, 1954, Professor Funso Falade joined the services of the University of Lagos as Lecturer I in 1992, and was appointed Professor in 2001. He has held several positions within the University including Head, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering as well as Dean, Faculty of Engineering, among others.
The renowned academic initiated the African Regional Conference on Engineering Education (ARCEE) in 2002, and this led to the establishment of the African Engineering Education Association (AEEA) in 2006 in South Africa. He is a COREN Registered Engineer; Fellow, Nigerian Society of Engineers; Fellow, Nigerian Institution of Structural Engineers; Fellow, Nigerian Academy of Engineering and Fellow of the African Engineering Education Association.
Professor Funso Alphonsus Falade is married and blessed with children.
