AFD-Supported ICT Development Project in Nigerian Universities: NUC Team Arrives UNILAG for Site Assessment

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS has reiterated her administration’s commitment to efforts aimed at improving the varsity’s Information Communication and Technologies (ICT) infrastructure.

She gave the assurance, while welcoming a 2-man delegation of the National Universities Commission (NUC) on Tuesday, January 30, 2024. The team: Barrister Pascal Eruaga (Head, Legal Division of NUC) and Mrs. Onyi Akaba (NUC Safeguard/Social Inclusion ACE Impact Project), was in the University for an on-the-spot evaluation of UNILAG for the AFD-supported ICT Development Project in Nigerian Universities.

The Director of Adetokunbo Babatunde Sofoluwe Centre for Information Technology and System (ABS–CITS), Professor M.O.H. Amuda and members of the UNILAG AFD-Supported ICT Development Project team received the NUC delegation, following their arrival at the Akoka campus of the University. The team, thereafter, led the NUC delegation on the courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor at her Senate House Office.

The Vice-Chancellor who was accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa noted that the deployment of ICT to ensure effective teaching, learning and administration at the University remained a key component of her agenda to reposition UNILAG as a FUTURE-READY globally recognized university.

Her words, “We, at the University of Lagos, already have an Information Communication Technology (ICT) development and deployment plan.  As a result, we are fully invested in ensuring the success of this project.  The grant for the ICT development project should be allocated to UNILAG as we would make NUC and Nigeria proud, through our implementation and utilization of the grant”.

In response, leader of the NUC delegation, Barrister Pascal Eruaga, expressed appreciation for the warm reception, and highlighted the team’s mission in the University. He explained that the courtesy visit was part of the assessment process to ensure that the institution’s leadership is fully aware and supportive of the project.

Immediately after the courtesy visit, the august visitors and UNILAG AFD-Supported ICT Development Project team moved to the UNILAG Research Management Office and Centre for Excellence in Sustainable Procurement, Environmental and Social Standards Enhancement (UNILAG SPESSECE), where formal presentations capturing the University’s proposal for the project were made.  The NUC delegation also took a tour of proposed sites for the project.
