The Orientation Programme for newly admitted students of the University of Lagos for the 2023/2024 academic session began on Monday, January 29, 2024 with a campus tour.
The Freshmen were led on a familiarisation tour of all the faculties and other places of interest on campus.
Grooving to the tunes of many Nigerian songs, the students, who moved in columns, interacted among themselves as they made their way to the Jelili Omotola Halls where eminent members of the university community were on hand to address them via an interactive session.

IDr. Ipaye led the pack of speakers at this session. She congratulated them for their successful admission into UNILAG and charged them to stay focused on making a success of their time in the institution.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Musa Obalola, urged the students to take notes of the nuggets being shared at the session and diligently apply them to their lives. He assured them of the readiness of the University Management to support them in their academic pursuits.
AROGI Trauma Care Foundation, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) working to promote mental health, was also represented at the event. One of its senior officers, Mr. Adedeji Odusanya, impressed upon the students the importance of mental health. He urged them to avail themselves of the services of the university’s Counselling Unit, and be confident to ask for help whenever they needed it.

An alumnus, Mr Kunle Rasheed Adegoke roused the students with his inspiring story of grit, having bagged his Bachelor of Law and Letters (LL. B) degree 14 years after he first enrolled in a university to study Law. He charged the students to conduct themselves as responsible members of the university community, and to leverage all the opportunities that the University of Lagos offers to groom themselves into excellent all-rounders who can take on the world.
In the lead up to the Matriculation Ceremony which is slated for Friday, February 2, 2024, the week-long Orientation Programme will feature other events like: Guided Tour of the University Library, interactive sessions with the different Associations & Clubs on campus, a Novelty Match, and the crowd-pulling Mr. & Miss JAMBITE pageantry.
