A Management Consultant, Mr. Goke Omotola has donated copies of his latest book, Customer Retention: An Experiential Approach to the University of Lagos (UNILAG). He made the donation at the Registrar’s Conference Room on Thursday, November 30, 2023.
Mr. Omotola, who is an alumnus and son of the 7th Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, late Professor Jelili Omotola, SAN, expressed delight at being back at his Alma Mater, to give back. He reminisced on his time as a student at the University and expressed gratitude for the quality of knowledge, which prepared him for his excellent performance in the world of work.
His words, “Relationships are very important. That is one lesson any perceptive person will quickly learn when they get out there into the industry. That is why I considered it important to share these books, the products of my intellect and experience, with my Alma Mater, its students and staff. I am grateful for the opportunity to do that”.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, who stood in for the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, appreciated the donor for his generosity of heart.
“The University of Lagos is delighted that our alumni are making waves in their respective industries; and, more importantly, are giving back. We accept these books with gratitude. We know the value of what you are giving us for free, because you had a vision, a noble idea that you believed should be shared with the over 60,000 students of our university. We assure you that we will distribute them in a manner that its message will be optimised among our students and staff”.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor used the occasion to extol the legacy of the 7th Vice-Chancellor of the University, late Professor Jelili Omotola, SAN, stating that, “Professor Jelili Omotola, our 7th Vice-Chancellor, was a colossus who saw ahead of his time. He was proactive and left tangible impacts of leadership. The UNILAG we know today that is pulling its weight in terms of optimising its intrinsic commercial value started from the visionary leadership of Professor Omotola”.
The Acting Director of Academic Affairs, Mrs Abosede Wickliffe who represented the Acting Registrar at the event gave the Vote of Thanks. She conveyed the appreciation of the University to the donor, and urged the continuation of similar gestures.
The donor, Mr. Goke Omotola, is the Chief Executive Officer of 1st Degree Consulting, a Management Consulting firm. He was accompanied to the event by his friend, associate, and fellow alumnus, Mr. Anthony Ulaikere, Deputy General Manager, Human Resources & Administration at Federal Airport Authorities of Nigeria (FAAN).
