An Associate Professor of analytical and environmental chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Lagos, Dr. Temilola Oluseyi has won a Rollins School of Public Health Dean’s Pilot and Innovation Grant, with Assistant Professor at the Gangarosa Department of Environmental Health at Emory University in the United States, Dr. Amina Salamova.
The grant, with a value of forty-nine thousand, nine hundred and sixty-three dollars ($49,963), is for a project titled: Assessing Toxic Chemical Exposures in e-waste Recyclers in Nigeria. The project will run from September 1, 2023 to August 15, 2024.
The grant will help facilitate the development of small research projects to gather preliminary data and establish partnerships that can be quickly used to advance newly funded extramural projects. This pilot project will develop exposure assessment and epidemiological studies that include measurements of multi-organic chemical residues in blood and urine samples of e-waste recyclers, thereby providing preliminary data on human exposure to chemical mixtures in Nigerian e-waste recyclers for the first time.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, on behalf of all staff and students of the University, congratulates Dr. Oluseyi on her achievement.
