SNEPCo Reiterates Commitment to Completion of UNILAG Geosciences CoE Project by 2024

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) has reiterated its commitment to the 2024 completion date of the Geoscience Centre of Excellence (GCoE) building project at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The Managing Director of SNEPCo, Elohor Aiboni who stated this when she led top executives of the company on a courtesy visit to the University on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, indicated that the primary focus of the visit was to discuss the progress report on the construction of GCoE building, a UNILAG/SNEPCo collaborative project. 

The delegation was received by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Management Services), Professor Lucian O. Chukwu along with the Acting Registrar, Mrs. Olakunle Makinde; Bursar, Mrs. Oluwafunlola Adekunle; Director, Academic Planning Unit, Professor Mathew Olusoji Ilori.

While emphasizing SNEPCo’s dedication to fostering education, research, and innovation within the field of geosciences and allied courses, Mrs. Aiboni affirmed that improving human capacity in Nigeria remained a paramount objective of the oil company. 

According to her, the social benefits of her organization to Nigerians were beyond oil and gas revenues but health and education.

The SNEPCo boss commended the University’s efforts in advancing academic excellence and accentuated the importance of the Geosciences Centre of Excellence in nurturing future talents in the oil and gas industry.

Earlier in his remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, (Management Services), Professor Lucian O. Chukwu warmly welcomed the delegation and expressed gratitude for the company’s continued support in enhancing the educational infrastructure at the University.

He expressed the University’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for students to excel in their studies and research endeavors.

The high point of the visit was the presentation of a progress report on the construction of the Centre of Excellence building by the Managing Director of 225 mm Construction, Engr. Ahmed Lawal. All parties expressed optimism about the successful completion of the Geosciences Centre of Excellence project and its inauguration, marking a significant milestone in the longstanding partnership between SNEPCo and UNILAG.

The Geosciences Centre of Excellence (GCoE) project is a state-of-the-art facility poised to become a hub for cutting-edge research and training in geosciences; offering students access to modern laboratories, research facilities, and expert guidance from renowned scholars in the field.
