2 UNILAG Students Claim Coveted World Bank Treasury Summer Internship Spots

Excellence, they say, is not a skill, but an attitude. These words of Ralph Marston, American writer and motivational speaker, bear scrutiny to the calibre of students at the University of Lagos (UNILAG). For these exceptional young adults, excellence is an attitude they embody to the fullest capacity, as they blaze the trails and shine rays of light on UNILAG’s geolocation on the world map.

Portraying that unique attitude of excellence, two 300-Level students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Precious Ozegbe and Oluwafunmilayo Odusanwo, of the Departments of Accounting and Finance, respectively, have been selected for the prestigious World Bank Treasury Summer Internship programme.

The outstanding duo are the only Nigerians amongst sixteen (16) interns selected out of over nine hundred (900) applicants. Hailing from eight countries: China, Japan, India, Nigeria, Tanzania, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, the 16 interns were selected through a highly competitive process. Theirs will be the fifth (5th) cohort in the Treasury Summer Internship of the World Bank.

The interns will gain first-hand experience in a dynamic and challenging international work environment. They will also get the opportunity to contribute to the Bank’s mission of eradicating poverty and promoting shared prosperity.

The University of Lagos takes great pride in nurturing talented individuals who can make a positive difference in the world. Precious and Oluwafunmilayo’s selection for this internship, which is one of few formal programs within The World Bank to hire college students for the summer, demonstrates the high calibre of UNILAG students and the quality of education they receive.

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, OON, on behalf of the university community, heartily congratulates Precious and Oluwafunmilayo on this well-deserved opportunity. As an institution committed to providing world-class education and opportunities to its students, the University of Lagos is immensely proud of the duo’s accomplishments. Professor Ogunsola wishes them success in their internship at the World Bank and looks forward to seeing them thrive in their future endeavours.

The Vice-Chancellor also appreciates the World Bank for recognizing the talent and potential within the university’s student community, and charges UNILAG students to continue maximising their potential and bloom where they are planted.
