Prof. Saibu Discusses Plans on Improving Quality Service Delivery at Inaugural Meeting

The Director of Quality Assurance and SERVICOM, University of Lagos, Professor Olufemi M. Saibu has reiterated the unit’s commitment to strengthening the overall institutional capacity of the University to deliver premium, efficient, and effective quality service at all levels.

He stated this during his maiden interaction with members of the Quality Assurance and SERVICOM Committees inside the hallowed chamber of the second floor of the Senate House on Thursday, May 25, 2023.

In what could aptly be described as a strategy meeting, Professor Saibu revealed some of his work plans and how he hopes to achieve them, stressing that they are designed to improve the quality of inputs, processes, and outputs of the university system.

While he underscored the importance of Quality Assurance at every level of public service delivery, he identified certain aspect of the operations as grey areas that needs improvements, particularly the need for new additions on the performance of university staff rating forms which will be regularly evaluated in accordance with subject-based international evaluation standards.

According to the Economics Professor, “…there’s a mandate for universities to develop their own quality management systems in order to assure quality and the attainment of their performance objectives. So what we have in mind and we must ensure is that these institutional quality management systems are subject to periodic audits”

The QA & S boss went further to inform the members of the efforts by his predecessor in developing a Service Charter and creating a virile working plan which will be harmonized with current plans to move the university even further.

“.. we have been able to work in consonance as a lot has been done by my predecessor with regards to accreditation and all. We now have a service charter that is very essential for accreditation procedure. This and many more will form a strong instrument to checkmate service providers, particularly as a benchmark for service provision in the university”.
