As part of its core mandate to ensure quality of all academic programmes offered in Nigerian universities, a 4-man National Universities Commission (NUC) team has concluded a revalidation exercise of the Distance Learning Institute, University of Lagos.
At the commencement of the exercise on Monday, May 22, 2023, the team led by Professor Blama Nachamada Vachaku paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS.
Accompanied by top management staff of the Distance Learning Institute including the Director, Professor Uchenna Udeani and Institute Secretary, Olagoke Oke; the delegation was received by the representative of the Vice-Chancellor: Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa and management officers of the university including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research), Professor Bola Oboh, Director and Deputy Director of Academic Planning, Professor Mathew Ilori and Dr. Olusheye Akinfenwa, among others.
Professor Atsenuwa appreciated NUC for its positive disposition towards the University over the years, and expressed optimism that the revalidation exercise would be smooth due to the availability of top-notch resources at the DLI. According to her, “we look forward to your feedback, observations and observations at the end of the exercise as the Institute is one of the oldest in Nigeria”.
At the team’s exit meeting on Tuesday, May 23, 2023; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Lucian Chukwu received the delegation on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor. Professor Chukwu, along with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research), Professor Bola Oboh and University Librarian, Professor Yetunde Zaid, also appreciated the team for their sacrifices in carrying out the assignment. He reiterated the university’s commitment to the continuous delivery of quality education.
In his remarks, the leader of the NUC Revalidation team, Professor Blama Nachamada Vachaku commended the university authorities for being an equal-opportunity employer of labour and provider of services. He, however, stressed the need for creativity and innovation in the teaching and learning.
Other members of the NUC team are Mr. Tukur Ladan, Mr. Patrick Ewen and Miss Amarka Ogoke.
