UNILAG Management pays Condolence Visits to Akinfeleye and Abegunde Families

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS, led members of the University of Lagos Management on condolence visits to the Akinfeleye and Abegunde families, respectively, on Saturday, May 20, 2023.

Their first port of call was the residence of the retired doyen of Mass Communication, Professor Ralph Akinfeleye, who was bereaved of his wife. There, Vice-Chancellor Ogunsola commiserated with the Akinfeleye Family and communicated the condolences of the university community to the first African to be elected to the World Journalism Education Congress.

Chief Mrs Caroline Anike Akinfeleye, the late wife of Professor Akinfeleye, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2023. Funeral rites will commence on Thursday, June 8, 2023 with a Service of Songs and end with her interment on Friday, June 16, 2023.

The Management thereafter went to the residence of a former Registrar of the University of Lagos, Mrs Rachel Abegunde, whose husband transited on Sunday, April 2, 2023. Here, also, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged the family and charged them to build on the shining legacy of their late father.

On hand to receive them were Mrs Abegunde herself and two of her children. They appreciated the kind gesture of the university management and expressed delight at being associated with the university.

Funeral rites for Commodore Olu Abegunde, the late husband of the former Registrar, will start on Thursday, May 26, 2023 with a Christian Wake Keep and end with a Funeral Service on Friday, May 26, 2023.
