The Lagos State Chapter of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) has passed a vote of confidence in the ability of the Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS, to deliver on her mandate to make UNILAG Future-Ready and surpass the track record of her predecessors in office.
The association made this known on Friday, January 27, 2023, during a congratulatory visit to the Vice-Chancellor’s office.
Led by the President, MWAN, Lagos Chapter, Dr. Ibironke Sodeinde, the visitation was an avenue for members to identify with and celebrate Prof. Folasade Ogunsola over her appointment and investiture as the 13th Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG.
While showering encomiums on Prof. Ogunsola for her many pioneering records in the university, the association also acknowledged the Vice-Chancellor’s milestones especially in her research area of prevention and control of infections as well as regulation and management of viral infections/diseases including HIV.


The Medical Women’s Association described Prof. Ogunsola’s feats as a challenge and inspiration to women medical practitioners in Nigeria and beyond. It also expressed confidence that the Vice-Chancellor’s zeal to serve humanity, commitment to excellence and current track record of accomplishments are pointers to the good things which awaits UNILAG under her leadership.
In her response, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola was full of gratitude to the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) for honoring and identifying with her.
She identified MWAN as strategic due to its ideals and impacts in developing and promoting medical practice and health care in Nigeria.


Prof. Ogunsola reiterated her commitment towards ensuring an expansion of infrastructures at the College of Medicine, Idi Araba, with a view to increasing the number of students’ intake thereby increasing the number of hands in Nigeria’s medical practice.
Highpoint of the visit was a presentation of a plaque to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola by the Lagos State Chapter of the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) in conveyance of the association’s hearty congratulations, goodwill and acknowledgment of the honor which Prof. Ogunsola has brought to the association by being the first female to clinch the Vice-Chancellor’s seat in UNILAG.
