The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Prof. Folasade T, Ogunsola, FAS, has assured the University Muslim Community (UMC) of an open door, all-inclusive leadership, and constant consultation with relevant stakeholders.
Professor Ogunsola gave the assurance at the Special Jumat Service/Prayer held at the UNILAG Central Mosque as part of activities lined up for the 60th Anniversary (53rd) Convocation Ceremonies of the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor lauded the UNILAG Muslim Community (UMC) for its unwavering support. She posited that the UMC has continued to make significant contributions to the campus’ growth, stability, and peaceful co-working environment. She noted that the Islamic virtues of sincerity, objectivity, and support to university administration at all times individually and collectively are applaudable.
In her words “UMC is more than just a religious organization at the University of Lagos; it is a critical stakeholder that has never wavered in its commitment to the University of Lagos’ ideals”.
On the continuous support for students in the form of scholarships and welfare packages which has helped to mitigate the impact of the current economic reality that everyone is facing, she commended the leadership of the UMC for providing economic safety nets for many vulnerable students including non-Muslims on campus.
In his remarks, the Chief Imam of the University Muslim Community (UMC), Prof, Ismail Musa thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the thoughtful leadership she has demonstrated since her assumption into office. He sought the support of the Vice-Chancellor in achieving its many important projects of UMC particularly the expansion of the Mosque.
He added that the mosque was designed for sustainability and that the Institution’s leadership should help provide the needed expertise. Thereafter, the Cleric led the congregation in prayers for the new helmswoman. He also offered prayers with respect to the forthcoming Convocation Ceremonies.
