The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS, continued her familiarization tour of various sections of the University with a visit to the School of Postgraduate Studies and Distance Learning Institute (DLI) on Thursday, January 12, 2023.

At the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), the Vice Chancellor accompanied by the Management team of the University was received by the Dean, Prof. Alabi Soneye along with other staff of the School.
The Dean, who thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the Management team for the visit, also expressed gratitude for management’s efforts aimed at accelerating the academic development of the SPGS.
Professor Soneye , the Dean of Postgraduate School craved the indulgence of the Vice-Chancellor and the Management team for a review of postgraduate tuition fees in order to meet with the infrastructural and logistics exigencies of postgraduate education in UNILAG.
The Dean also called for the recruitment of the school’s programme staff as full-time workers of the University because of their proven competence, dedication and industrious spirit.
In her remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folashade Ogunsola FAS, stressed the need for members of staff to align with global best practices in engagement and knowledge dissemination.
She said the era of postgraduate students’ non-appearance for years, only to re-surface later is gone.
Her words: “the University will make time-bound policies that would instil discipline and regulation for completion of programmes. International best practices must be strictly adhered to in the award of postgraduate degrees in the University of Lagos. Our courses will have international accreditation beyond the Nigeria University Commission (NUC) accreditation. This development will migrate the University to world-class”.
Distance Learning Institute

At her familiarization tour of the Distance Learning Institute, the Vice-Chancellor was received by the Director, Distance Learning Institute, Prof. Uchenna Udeani along with the Chairman of the DLI Board, Prof. Abayomi Okanlawon, the first Professor of the Institute, Prof. Johnson Adewara, a cross-section of students and other members of staff who all gave the Management team a standing ovation.
Prof. Udeani thanked the Management of the University and the DLI Board for their support and commitment to the development, approval and implementation of the developmental policies.
According to her. “the University of Lagos Distance Learning Institute is ready and prepared to key into the vision and mission statement of Madam Vice-Chancellor”.
The Vice-Chancellor, in her remarks, thanked the DLI Board, the Director and the entire staff of the Institute for being highly impressive and proactive.
Prof. Ogunsola stressed the pivotal role of the institute because of the huge population of tertiary education seekers in Nigeria. She noted that E-learning is the answer to socio-economic engineering.
While responding to a question by one of the students, Julius Dickson Tobechi on the need for products of the Institute to participate in the one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, the Vice-Chancellor explained that the review of the policy falls within the purview of government.
At the end of the visit, the first professor of the institute, Prof. Johnson Adewara who also recently won a TETFund grant of N20 million, gave the vote of thanks.
