The University of Lagos has inaugurated newly constituted Quality Assurance and SERVICOM Committees in all academic departments of the institution. The event took place on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at the Senate Chambers
Prior to the inauguration of the committees, the Director of Quality Assurance and SERVICOM, Professor Grace Otinwa, highlighted the nature of the committees’ assignment and their importance to the overall mission of the University.
“Quality assurance is at the heart of what we do here at UNILAG. So is the guarantee of your right to quality service. I urge you to bear in mind that the committees on which you serve are a mechanism for ensuring compliance with standards. As Quality Assurance Officers (QAO) in your respective departments, it is your duty to identify points of service failure, escalate such to your HODs, and suggest areas of possible improvement.”
On hand to perform the inauguration was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Lucian Chukwu, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS.
Professor Chukwu commended members of academic staff for their commitment to their calling, even in the face of dampened morale. He congratulated them on their appointment into the Quality Assurance Committees of their respective departments and charged them to be diligent at it.
His words: “Quality Assurance is in everything you do on a daily basis. When you’re charged with such an important duty in a place where knowledge for human capital development is produced, you know that it’s a critical responsibility that you must be diligent at discharging. I must therefore thank you for accepting the onerous responsibility of keeping the moral tone of the University high”.
Thereafter, the nominees of the departments were sworn in as Quality Assurance & SERVICOM Officers, whose duties include: monitoring the quality of teaching and research in the Department, intervening in matters that affect the quality of teaching and research in the Department, coordinating departmental Self Evaluation Exercises, among others.
Each Quality Assurance & SERVICOM Officer will serve for a term of two years, renewable for another term of two years by the nomination of the Head of Department.
