Exactly seven months after the University of Lagos and the Institute of Directors, Nigeria, agreed to a bilateral partnership, the Chairman of the Institute’s council, Dr. (Mrs) Ije Jidenma, F.I.oD led other principal officers of the Institute to the University for the official signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Senate house.
In his welcome remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS highlighted the importance of the agreement to both institutions. He posited that the partnership will strengthen several areas of mutual interest especially the academic exchange of faculty members between the institutions. In His words “Some of your members can come over to talk to our students in several areas to help their confidence level and at the same time develop them professionally for the future. We have to look beyond the agreement but look into the future”.
Professor Ogundipe underscored the internationalisation efforts of the University in terms of curriculum development and partnerships. He posited that as part of efforts to achieve this notable Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) has already been signed with several European universities and this has consequently amplified the University’s status globally.
In her response, Dr. Jidenma expressed satisfaction with the agreement which she described as a remarkable feat in all facets, She noted that the University under the Vice-Chancellor’s watch has continued to break barriers, develop competencies in many digital-compliant areas and actively changing the narrative of higher education in Nigeria, with its promotion of entrepreneurship and skill acquisition amongst students. A move, that has become the leeway in the bilateral relationship between UNILAG and other notable players in the private sector.
Thereafter, there was the official signing of papers and presentation of a plaque to the Vice-Chancellor by Dr. Jidenma who noted that the award was in appreciation of Prof. Ogundipe’s numerous achievements in office.
