The Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria Data Protection Bureau, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, has stressed the importance of data management and protection as a major subject of legal discourse.

He stated this while delivering the Keynote Address at the 1st National Data Protection Moot Court Competition and Mini-Conference organised by the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos, on Thursday, November 3, 2022.
Dr. Olatunji, who made his presentation via Zoom, traced the evolution of data management in Nigeria, and how it has risen to become an important subject of legal discourse. He encouraged participants at the conference to take more than a passing interest in the emerging field and to position themselves for national and global relevance.
The conference, which had the theme, “Future of Data Protection in Nigeria”, had in attendance accomplished professionals in the legal industry who operate in the data protection speciality. These include: Lagos State Director of Civil Litigation, Mrs Salau Modupe, who represented the Attorney-General of Lagos State, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN; Leader of the Committee Drafting the National Data Protection Bill, Ms. Celestina Nwabueze; Head of Privacy for Africa, Middle East and Turkey at Meta Inc., Dr. Ololade Shyllon; and Mr. Akintayo, who represented the Managing Partner/ Head, Data Protection Practice of SimmonsCooper LP, Mr. Dapo Akinosun (SAN). They were all on the Panel of Discussants, which was moderated by Dr. Akinola Akintayo.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services) and former Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, was also present at the conference, along with staff and students of the Faculty.
