It was a deluge of commendations and encomiums for the Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, at the joint meeting of Board Committees of the School of Postgraduate Studies.
The meeting which held on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at the Boardroom of the School of Postgraduate Studies, saw senior members of the board including the Dean, Professor Alabi Soneye, taking turns to pay glowing tributes to Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, for what they called focused leadership which has benefitted the University of Lagos in every facet.
While welcoming the Vice-Chancellor to the meeting, the Dean of Postgraduate, Professor Alabi Soneye gave thumbs up to him for leading with purpose and especially for his keen commitment to staff welfare.
In their tributes, Professor Abayomi Akanlawon of the College of Medicine and Professor Grace Ukpo of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry recalled the tenure of Professor Ogundipe as Dean of Postgraduate Studies between 2007 and 2011. During that period, Professor Ogundipe ensured a re-classification and re-organization of the Postgraduate Academic Planning Committee to make it more operational, efficient and contemporaneous.
They both lauded the Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to all-around growth and development in the university through the painstaking implementation of his P3P Policy, a feat which they said, has turned UNILAG around for good.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, was full of gratitude to all members of the School of Postgraduate Board committees for the honour and for being progressive partners in the many developmental strides which the university recorded since 2017 when he assumed office.
Prof. Ogundipe noted that the School of Postgraduate Studies has lived up to its bidding as a training ground for Postgraduate students, a development he said, aided the over nineteen billion naira (N19,000,000,000) worth of research grants which has been attracted into the university since 2017.
While imploring the School of Postgraduate Board members to remain committed to their role as mentors, Professor Ogundipe harped on the importance of institutional loyalty among all stakeholders with a view to keeping the university on its path to greatness.
The meeting saw the Vice-Chancellor being honoured with a plaque in recognition of his outstanding services and achievements in office, Prof. Ogundipe also presented plaques to the oldest Ph.D. graduand at the University’s 52nd convocation, Dr. Asuelimen George Anacious alongside others.
