UNILAG Strengthens Sub-Regional Alliance with Université Charles Louis De Montesquieu

The University of Lagos, on Friday, September 30, 2022, played host to the Vice-Chancellor, Université Charles Louis de Montesquieu, Professor Amoa Urbain. The visit was to strengthen the alliance between the two West African Universities.

The august visitor was received by the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), Professor Alabi Soneye, along with Senior Faculty members including the sub-Dean, SPGS, Dr. Caleb Gbiri; Dr. Ilupeju Mudasiru; Dr. Olusola Oguntola; Dr. Eucharia Ebelechukwu; Deputy Registrar, Mrs. Yetunde Ogunlewe and Chief Executive Officer (Accounts), Samuel Ojo.

Professor Urbain’s visit was aimed at strengthening the current ties between the two varsities as well as expand the scope of the Inter-University Conference on Doctoral Studies to other disciplines- such as Pharmacy, Sciences, Social Sciences, etc.

Speaking during the courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor’s office, Professor Urbain provided some insight into the programmes and activities run at Université Charles Louis de Montesquieu, a private, and bilingual university located at Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

He suggested setting up an international observatory for public and private universities – with public universities providing the lecturers for the programme.

According to him, the UNILAG Vice-Chancellor should serve as the President of the Observatory, while an Academic Board would head an annual meeting to be held by the observatory.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Development Services, Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, FAS, welcomed the visitor to the University. She assured the School of Postgraduate Studies of the University’s support in strengthening the programme because academics in the West African sub-region ought to work together, without language being a barrier.

The Inter-University Conference on Doctoral Studies, originated by Université Charles Louis de Montesquieu, is a biannual international conference organized for academics in West Africa. Participating Universities/Institutions include: University of Education, Winneba, Ghana; University of Ghana, Levon; Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana; University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast, Ghana; University of Lagos, Akoka, Nigeria; University  de Lome, Lome, Togo; Université Charles Louis de Montesquieu, Abidjan, La Côte d’Ivoire, University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Kano; Université d’Abomey-Calavi, Benin and Centre International de Recherches et d’Etudes de Langus – Billage du Benin (CIREL-VB), Lome, Togo.
