UNILAG Begins Activities to Mark Diamond Jubilee with Special Jumat Service

Activities to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of the University of Lagos commenced on Friday, September 30, 2022, with a Special Jumat service and prayer at the University Mosque, Main Campus, Akoka.

The curtain-raiser provided an opportunity for the leadership of the mosque led by the Chief Imam, Professor Ismail Musa to pray for the institution and offer words of advice and encouragement to all members of the University community.

The event was witnessed by members of the University community including the management team: Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor AyodeleAtsenuwa; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Lucian ObinnaChukwu; Registrar, OladejoAzeez, Esq, Director, Academic Planning, Professor Mopelola Olusakin, and Director, Quality Assurance & SERVICOM, Professor Grace Otinwa.

In a brief remark at the event, Professor Atsenuwa who led the Management team to the Mosque thanked the Muslim community for their warm reception and hospitality. She eulogized the founding fathers of the University for establishingUNILAG as a cosmopolitan institution which is truly a first-choice citadel of learning and major player in the development of the country.

The Professor of Law posited that the University’s 60th anniversary provided an avenue to highlight the unity among entities within the University in spite of the challenges recorded in recent times. 

Events to mark UNILAG at 60 will continue on Sunday, October 2, 2022 with a Thanksgiving Service scheduled to hold at 10.30 a.m. at the University Chapel, Main Campus, Akoka.

On Monday, October 3, 2022, the following events will be held to specifically mark the day teaching commenced at the University, for its first batch of twenty-eight (28) pre-clinical students:

  • Touchdown at the Roots at the College of Medicine, Idi-Araba
  • Exhibition at the Main campus, Akoka
